Focusing on Life - 3/52

This is week 3 of 52 for Sally Russick's Focus on Life photo challenge. This week's photo prompt is to take a picture that represents "what I did for me".  In Sally's words, "When was the last time you took a few moments to yourself?  Really took time for YOU without feeling guilty".

I've got to say - these weekly photo prompts have really got me thinking - the Self Portrait, the focus of "Our Word for the Year", and now this.  I believe this has been the hardest prompt so far...seriously.  Because I don't "do for me"....  There has been some serious re-evaluation of how I live my life these first 3 weeks of January, let me tell you! (Thank you, Sally!)

But, I did do one thing.

No - nothing is wrong - just my yearly check up (ugh).  The one where if I don't schedule the appointment I feel guilty.  So - appointment made - guilt gone. "It's a good thing".

Sometime tomorrow (Sunday, January 20th) is my drawing for this handmade silver and lampwork bracelet, to celebrate my 100th blog post.  If you have not signed up for the drawing, please visit this post - there is still time!

Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Good thing to do, Patti! I'm in the "old farts" club now, so the hospital just calls me and tell me when to show up...but I'm so glad for you that you did this for yourself.

  3. Good girl, Patricia! And now...after all that thinking that you have done, I hope you DO start doing more things for yourself!
That photo is full of relief for anyone who sees it! Whew!

  4. I always feel good when I get those diagnostic procedures. In spite of the fear involved that something will be wrong... at least we know, and can take action. I would be stumped by taking the picture, though. You did a good job of capturing it.

  5. Isn't it amazing how focusing on our lives...changes them?
    xo!

  6. It's a good thing to re-evaluate once in a while. I hope you find a way to "do for you"...that doesn't require a hospital gown! Good for you for taking care of that appointment!

  12. Hmmm, this sounds more like torture rather than you-time. On the other hand, it's good that you are taking care of yourself by making this appointment. Thanks for the reminder!!!

  15. I can't tell you how many women I know who push back their mammo because of other family stuff going on, so I think you taking the time for you to do this for yourslef is the perfect thing to do!! I also love that bracelet you photographed, too - and congrats on your 100th post, that's awesome!

  16. Not a way I would spend "me" time but a what a way to make sure you stay healthy (something I need to do now!). Love your bracelet - your wire work is stunning!

  18. That's a great "me" thing to do!

That appointment is one I always stick to, every year, even if it isn't really a lot of fun!

  19. That's probably the best thing you can do for yourself: yearly check-ups. I don't do well in that area - more of a 'if everything feels OK, why bother?' approach (not proud of it).
Good job taking care of yourself, Patti!

  25. Good work! No fun, but necessary. My mum is a breast cancer survivor so I know there will be way too many of these in my future but better to be safe. Way to be fearless too, look at ya!

  26. So glad you're taking good care of yourself! It's fun viewing our lives in slightly different way each week, isn't it? Even more fun getting to share it with one another! =)

  27. Patti, great for you to make that appointment. I am so guilty of putting myself last and not keeping up with all of my own appointments that I really need to make. Thank you for the reminder. And congrats again for your milestone with blogging! Your wirework bracelet is a real beauty!

  28. A very important appointment!!! Take it from me I know, not me personally but my mom, and two sisters were diagnosed within 5 months of one another.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oh, I hate making that appointment! But so good that you actually did it...and good luck!

  30. Not a fun thing, but definitely important. A mammogram helped detect my mom's cancer when it was still in Stage 1, so it really does save lives.

Maybe you could take a little time to swing by a coffee shop, bookstore, or some other fun place on the way to or from your appointment? :)

  31. Good for you. Sometimes taking time to relax is taking care of much needed healthcare so you CAN relax! Reminds me of an Ob/gyn appt. that is much over due. :/

    ReplyDelete
  32. Probably one of the most important things we can do for ourselves! And though it is also one of the most unrelaxing things in the world,(especially when the tech says oh I can't see as much as I'd like let's do it again), it is very relaxing to have it over and know that everything is good. So good for you!

  33. And a very important thing you picked to do for yourself.

  34. It's such a relief to know it is over...great job!

  35. Wonderful. I finally had my first when I was like 41. And then I 'forgot' all about it until this past year at 44. Doh! I am glad that you see this as something integral and time for you, even though it is not always the most pleasant. Enjoy the day. Erin
